Tips to Get Your Deck Ready for Spring

Tips to Get Your Deck Ready for Spring

February 9, 2023/by Gabe

March 20, 2023, is the first official day of spring this year. It’s practically here, which means it’s time to start getting ready for warmer weather. There’s no time like the present to check your deck and get it ready so you can enjoy all the beauty and warmth that comes with the spring season. Do you know what to do to get your deck ready for spring?

Inspect the Deck

Inspecting the deck is the first thing you should do. Take a close look to find any signs of damage. Look for cracked boards, holes in the wood, and wood dust. Watch out for places where the wood is soft or easily penetrated. Check the condition of railings, nails, screws, and fasteners.  Address any problems before spending time on your deck. Sand and refinish the wood if needed, giving yourself plenty of time to accomplish the task and for the finish to cure.

Break Out Your Outdoor Furniture

If you put your outdoor furniture away for the winter, it’s time to start bringing it out. Like your deck, you should inspect it to make sure it’s in good condition. Repair what you can as needed and replace pieces that are too worn to be repaired. Once you have your furniture out and inspected, you can arrange it on your deck (assuming it’s passed your inspection) so it’s ready for use. Sonoma County springs aren’t known for being wet, but keep covers nearby to protect your outdoor furniture from any rain that happens.

Accessorize

The last major step in preparing your deck for spring is to accessorize it. You can do this with things like shady umbrellas, small statues, outdoor lighting, outdoor throws and pillows, and potted plants that coordinate with your furniture and any other decor you may have. Use your deck accessories to cultivate a space that suits your aesthetic and is comfortable for you. That way you can enjoy it to the fullest.

Spring in Sonoma County means warmer, drier weather. That’s perfect for enjoying some quality time outside on your deck. Before you start basking in the sun and enjoying the beauty that’s around you, make sure your deck is ready. Starting now means it will be that much easier to relax and enjoy everything your deck has to offer when spring officially arrives.
