Need to Relax after the Back-to-School Craziness? 3 Things to Try

Kids are back in school. The beginning of the school year is always hectic. There are school supplies to purchase, extracurricular activities to sign up for, and class schedules to finalize. All that running around can leave you feeling overwhelmed and in need of a good relaxation session. Here are three ways you can kick back and relax, as well as enjoy the last of the mild weather before winter arrives.

Soak in Your Hot Tub

There’s nothing quite like a nice soak in a hot tub to help you relax. Let the heat and water pressure from the jets soothe your sore, tired muscles. Listen to the sound of the water as it moves around you. Let your head hang back over the neck, rest and close your eyes. Want to take your soak to the next level? Add in some aromatherapy with lavender, patchouli, spearmint, or lemon essential oils, and pick your favorite relaxation soundtrack to indulge your senses during your soak.

Relax in Your Patio Furniture

You don’t have to be in the water to have a relaxing outdoor experience. Pull up your favorite piece of patio furniture and lounge in it for a while. Close your eyes and soak up the sun (don’t forget the sunscreen!), read a favorite book or magazine, or meditate to the sound of your breathing and the world around you. Whether you kick back in an armchair or sofa, you’re sure to feel refreshed after taking some time for yourself.

Indulge in Some Outdoor Cooking

If you love to cook, indulging in some outdoor cooking could be the perfect way to relax. There’s something meditative about carefully preparing and measuring ingredients before combining them and turning them into a delicious dish. It’s often pretty warm still at the beginning of the school year, so taking your cooking outdoors is the perfect way to enjoy this pastime without heating the inside of your home. Once your dish is done, take your time to really savor the flavors as you eat. You’ll be glad you did.

It’s always good to take some time for yourself to relax, and taking your relaxation and quiet reflection outside is a great way to savor the beautiful late summer and fall weather. Taking some time to yourself will also help you bring your best self to the homework table the next time your kids need help with algebra or history. After all, every parent of a school-aged child knows that school isn’t just for kids.
