A Closer Look at the Relationship between Your Hot Tub and Your Skin

A Closer Look at the Relationship between Your Hot Tub and Your Skin

February 22, 2022/by Gabe

Soaking in a hot tub can be an awesome experience. There’s nothing quite like it for helping you relax and rejuvenate. Hot tubs can provide multiple benefits. One of those involves your skin. A nice hot tub soak can be great for your skin, provided you take the right approach to it. Just jumping in on a regular basis isn’t quite going to cut it.

The Benefits

Would you like to have clearer skin? If so, spending time in your hot tub could be just the thing. Hot tubs help clear your skin by encouraging perspiration. As your skin warms, the pores open up and sweat is allowed to exit. That also makes it easier for any dirt and oils to make their way out of your skin as well, which you can then easily wash off when you exit the hot tub. That heat can also help boost the circulation to your skin, which helps promote collagen and elastin production.

Potential Drawbacks

Warm water may work wonders, but frequent trips to your hot tub do have potentially negative side effects. The chemicals that are used to keep hot tubs healthy and clean can do a number on your skin. Chlorine in particular can cause your skin to dry out if you spend too much time in it. If you have a skin condition, such as eczema, or if you use your hot tub frequently, you could experience some irritation.

Making the Most of Your Hot Tub for Your Skin

Fortunately, there are things you can do to counteract the drying effect of chlorine and make the most of what your hot tub can do for your skin. Start by making sure your water is clean and balanced. You may find it better to use bromine. You might even consider using a water conditioner. Aside from that, make an effort to take good care of your skin. Drink lots of water so you stay hydrated. Make sure you rinse off when you’re done. Exfoliate and moisturize as well so your skin will be silky soft.

Hot tubbing isn’t just fun. It also has the potential to be incredibly good for you. A nice relaxing soak in a hot tub can provide you with great benefits for your skin, provided you know how to address any potential drawbacks. Take advantage of everything your hot tub has to offer by enjoying it on a regular basis. That’s why you got it after all, isn’t it?
